Charles Chang-Han Liu - Ink Painting Artist's Statement
Chinese landscape painting differs from Western landscape art. "Shanshui" (mountain-water) painting expresses philosophical reflections on life. The Chinese emphasize the harmony between heaven and humanity, connecting life's ideals with the natural universe.
In Fan Kuan's Travelers Among Mountains and Streams, we sense that "nature is eternal, while humans are merely travelers—passing guests. Human existence is fleeting."
In Guo Xi’s Early Spring further captures the shanshui vision of landscapes that are “traversable, viewable, wanderable, and livable.”Art is like water, transforming with the terrain, flowing into rivers, lakes, or seas. This "terrain" represents the evolution of the times—shifting ideologies, technological advancements, and societal aspirations—naturally shaping the progression of art.
劉昌漢 - 水墨藝術家引言
中國山水和西方風景畫不同。「山水」表現人生的思想。中國人講天人合一,把人生理想跟自然宇宙發生聯繫關係。
從范寬《谿山行旅》中我們可以感受「自然是永恆的,人只是行旅,過客。人是短暫的。」而郭熙的《早春圖》更體現中國山水「可行、可望、可游、可居」的理念。
藝術像水,會隨著地勢演變,流淌成江、成湖、成海。這個「地形」就是時代的演變,包括思潮迭起、科技發展、社會的追求。自然形成藝術的發展。
Lei Liang – Composer’s Statement
"The benevolent delight in mountains; the wise delight in waters." This succinctly expresses the heart of Chinese shanshui (landscape) philosophy. Mountains and rivers are never just scenery—they resonate with the human spirit.
Fan Kuan’s Travelers Among Streams and Mountains renders Northern China’s landscapes with striking realism and monumental composition. Guo Xi’s Early Spring, by contrast, offers a dynamic, almost emotional vision of nature—one that transcends literal representation, inviting boundless imagination.
Traditional ways of contemplating shanshui endure, but today we must ask: How do we envision future landscapes? Modern shanshui is inextricably linked to technology, and to humanity’s urgent role as both steward and partner to the Earth.
梁雷 - 作曲家引言
「仁者樂山,智者樂水」。這就直接點出中國山水文化的核心。山水不只是表象的東西,而直指人心。
范寬的《谿山行旅》描寫中國北方山水,非常具體,設計格局非常大。郭熙的《早春圖》則完全是一個動感的、人心所呈現的山水,和現實中的山水拉開極大的距離,給我們很多想像空間。
過去有看山水的辦法,但是我們現在應該特別強調怎麼看未來的山水。現在的山水觀念,還和科技發展、整個人類與地球的保育與互持,直接關連。
