Benjamin Fleischack 福睿笙

Benjamin Fleischacker is a cellist and scholar whose work bridges musical performance and cultural research. He holds a BA in History from Yale University (2017), where he studied cello with Ole Akahoshi and Irene Sharp while serving as principal cellist of the Yale Symphony Orchestra. He performed internationally with the cello ensemble Low Strung, touring to Costa Rica, China, Singapore, and throughout the US. 

 

As a 2017-2018 Luce Scholar, he studied with Chu Yibing and Nicholas Tzavaras at Beijing's Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM). He completed his MM in Cello Performance at UCLA in 2024 under Antonio Lysy and Ben Hong, while also pursuing PhD studies in Chinese History. During his time at UCLA, he studied erhu for four years and organized *Musical Resonances*, a workshop bringing Chinese artists to coach Western-trained musicians on interpreting Chinese-influenced repertoire (supported by the Student Opportunities Fund and Davise Fund). 

 

His creative projects include *Chinoiserie/中體西用* (2022-2023), a multimedia recital tracing Chinese-European musical dialogues. His research examines Republican-era music literacy and includes collaborations with Dong ethnic musicians in Guangxi. From 2018-2020, he served as Academic Director and Music Department Chair at Shenzhen's Vanke Meisha Arts Academy, where he designed curricula and led faculty development.
 

大提琴演奏者兼學者福睿笙致力於音樂表演與跨文化研究的結合。他於2017年畢業於耶魯大學歷史系,在校期間師從大提琴家Ole Akahoshi和Irene Sharp,並擔任耶魯交響樂團首席大提琴手,隨大提琴樂團Low Strung赴哥斯大黎加、中國、新加坡及美國各地巡演。
 

2017至2018年作為路思學者期間,他於北京中央音樂學院師從朱亦兵教授及Nicholas Tzavaras。2024年於加州大學洛杉磯分校(UCLA)取得大提琴演奏碩士學位,師從Antonio Lysy與Ben Hong,同時攻讀中國歷史博士學位。在UCLA期間,他系統學習二胡四年,並策劃《音樂的回響》工作坊,邀請中國音樂家指導西方樂手演繹中國風格作品(獲Student Opportunities Fund與Davise Fund資助)。
 

他的藝術項目包括探討中歐音樂對話的多媒體音樂會《中體西用》(2022–2023)。研究領域涵蓋民國時期音樂普及及廣西侗族音樂合作。2018至2020年間,曾任深圳萬科梅沙書院學術總監及音樂系主任,主導課程開發與教學管理。
